Definitions: The Wallflower

A Poem by fiery-san
"

A thin line you walk... as you stand in the middle of everything.

"

Define ‘...’

It is such a strange thing.

You exist and don’t exist at the same time.

You’re a part of something but at the same time you’re detached.

People don’t bother asking you or telling you.

You’re just there.

Ignored.

Acknowledged.

Your status was never a stable one.

You can blend in whatever background you've chosen

but the truth is you’re the one that stands out the most

You know and hear everything

but you can only reach the surface and never the deeper aspect

Because that’s all people would allow you to see and hear.

You are free from the clutches of social norms

but at the same time forced to conform because if you choose to deviate...

you would be truly left alone

No allies or friends but mere acquaintances.

To sum it up, you’re a solitary creature.

You try to conform yet still you are viewed as an eccentric.

You try to stand out but you are doused by the waters of monotony.

You are at the brink of it all

A delicate balance between being something and nothing at the same time.

You are forever a puzzle piece placed in the wrong puzzle box.

Out of place yet still acknowledged being a part of something.

You are there but you easily go unnoticed.

You are a loner.

You are a wallflower.

very descriptive. i think many of us has felt like that at one time or the other. even the "popular" people. they sometimes have insecure feelings. i especially liked the puzzle piece being placed in the wrong box. just as important as the other pieces, but it would be very valuable in the proper setting.

I like this a lot, contradictions appeal to me. Seems like being a wallflower is an oxymoron at best...nice work.
