Funeral Thoughts

Funeral Thoughts

A Poem by Luna Evangeline

It’s a funny thing,

the feeling after someone has died.

It’s a peculiar emptiness,

a hole that is first filled to the brim with doubt

and later just drained into

nothing.

Everything is hollow,

echoing,

and cold.

So cold.

It used to feel like

happiness reached up through my heart and

pulled my lips into a smile.

Now it’s just muscles moving over teeth

to appease everyone.

When I first realized she was gone

funny emotions came smashing together in my chest

like one million tiny explosions

angryconfusedanguishedeverythinginbetween

and now there’s nothing left

nothing but me

just me.

You have described the feeling of loss perfectly, at least for me. That is how it makes me feel. A good write, and wonderfully expressed.

Thanks Diego, it's much appreciated.
I am amazed. Seriously. You've captured the pain and desperate feeling of deep loss when someone dearly loved passes. Especially when you mention that you smile only to appease those around, like wearing a mask.

Also, when you discuss the emotions and you smashed all the words together, no breaks, no commas, just one line full of pain, it gives it a tangible realization of the suffering.

Then, to punch us all in the gut at the end, describing with such simplicity, the isolation and loneliness that follows such a loss.

I appreciate the thoughtful reflection J, I'm grateful to hear your thoughts.
I like it and the feelings you out in here are true feelings you feel when you lost someone .

Thank you Esperanza for your thoughts.
You did very well describing the emotion and feeling of death. Death leave us weak and trying to understand. Death is hard to grasp and take times to be understood. A sad and lonely ending to a outstanding poem.
