In the Shallows

In the Shallows

A Poem by fictionletsusfly

For a while I've been watching
and waiting for the shift
something to stir.

And for some time I've been throwing stones
and stirring up dust
in the shallows.

So shallow. In the shallows so shallow.
Is it even worth it at all?

I took a step closer and you let it linger
steadfast as tree trunks
lost as breezes.

You made this a contest of coldness
I don't possess it. I can't be colder than this.
So I'll leave.

As deep as it hurts, it's better to leave.
