On Her Last Day
We sit in as a family knowing one of us is up and into the end the final hour has passed Green Bean almondine sauteed chicken and herb salad for four drinks galore for no chance of appetite She withers away as death comes here tonight and tonight it stay upon my departure my worry and glee gone beyond warning its just She and me we leave Her for the last time on that late Christmas eve I prayed over Her soul as God hears my prayer but then only can she succumb to the night's final hour the tree decorated with love as angels arrive from above Several hours later the call comes into play with nothing more to say but on that very night she took her last breath and not in dismay Yes, Death was there and I wasn't to say The only witness to view and see the end, the father as She steps up to Her bedroom Collapsing on her bed Closing her eyes for one last time finally she was complete Her heart has stopped just as the clock reads forty past ten Too late are we on our return three past midnight She has left with no concern One life to live we say Gone by in an instant She was the rock of that family now broken as they depart on and off to a new start Only by death can the new light surround new beginnings and old ends are bound She died with great love in her heart but still in that house she remains Her presence is strong as the rift Silent now you lay We will miss you my dear a great time we had this year thanks you for your gifts and goodbye, goodbye as you were today
