ChivalryA Poem by fergulIt's the syllable count that counts folks.I was walking one day and I spied a young maid She was down by the riverside looking afraid, A fine dressed young lady with gold in her hair and never suspecting that someone was there. But the water was deep and the water was wide, So she took of her shoes and she cast them aside, and I started to wonder where this story led as she took off her pants and put them on her head. I thought I was sleeping and still in a dream As she stepped, oh so careful out into the stream, But the water was deep and the water was wide, twas an awful long way to the opposite side. I heard her faint weeping, her pitiful sighs As the water came creeping up over her thighs A cry of frustration escaped from her lips As she pulled up her skirt to the tops of her hips. So t'was off my trousers and off with my shoes A maid was in trouble, there was no time to lose, and out there I waded, approached from behind, then made myself known in a voice soft and kind. I said, "YOU'LL NOT MAKE IT ACROSS THIS BIG STREAM" and she jumped in the air and gave out with a scream, then ten seconds later if the whole truth it be told She was over that river and off down the road. She never said thank you, or asked me my name So rude and ungrateful and with no sense of shame, And there in the distance that selfish girl fled With her dress round her hips and her pants on her head! © 2016 fergulReviews
