Cant hold back any longer

Lillian could not get Dante out of her head. An assassin. How could he be an assassin? The truth had been circling her brain for two day straight now .She kept thinking back to her night at the graveyard, of the real reason Dante was there.

“So sir garrets was the reason we met. You were not concerned about me, you were concerned about getting caught!”, she mumbled, as if Dante was actually there to hear it .She started to trail off on a different train of thought, but was snapped back into reality at the sound of her father opening the door.

“Lillian, lord Ralf is outside and has requested you to join him on a stroll into town. Don’t keep him waiting”, he said, completely oblivious to the dried tears on her face. Within a few minutes, she was ready to go and met lord Ralf outside.

“A fine day isn’t it my fair lady” he said, as more of a statement rather than question. Lillian replied,

“Indeed it is my lord” as she began walking down the road with him.

“Lillian, I get the distinct impression you do not truly love me” Ralf exclaimed, almost egotistically.

“Oh I do my lord, it’s just, all these gifts you give me. It is a bit overwhelming.” Lillian did not want to tell the truth quite yet. Lord Ralf let out a chuckle.

“Oh don’t be modest my dear, women love gifts more than anything! What kind of a man would I be if I didn’t give you anything and everything?” Lillian went silent. The two of them walked without a word for almost two minutes until Ralf pointed at a large building on their left.

"That was sir garrets home right there. It’s just awful how such a grizzly crime could be committed in our humble town, is it not?” Lillian’s mind flashed back to the night she met Dante. She could visualize her love brutally cutting into his target; the screams of pain were almost too much to bear.

“Yes it is my lord”, she replied, a touch of quiver in her voice.

“I… I’m sorry my lord, but I have a prior commitment I must attend to.” She said her goodbye and ran to Molly’s house.

Molly was in the parlor drinking some tea when Lillian arrived, completely out of breath.

“Lillian my dear! What is the matter?” she asked, giving her friend a moment to catch her breath.

“I can’t get Dante out of my mind Molly. I know what he does, I know what he has done, but I love him Molly! I love him!” Molly jumped out of her chair,

“hold your tongue! You’re to be wed to lord Ralf are you not? How can you have feelings for this… this… degenerate?” Lillian broke down crying, unsure of what to say. “You’re serious aren’t you? You really do love Dante. I can’t imagine why, but I’ll help you any way I can.” upon hearing this, Lillian sprang up and hugged her friend, sobbing loudly.

“Please don’t get involved! It’s wrong enough that I’m in this mess, I won’t drag you in too.” She stayed there crying for about an hour until she was calm enough to head home.

As soon as Lillian left, Molly went in search of the old beggar. She found him, eating an apple down by the old bridge.

"You there, I need you to arrange a meeting with Dante for me” she said in a very stern voice. The man looked at her, took one last bite, and tossed the rest of his apple into the river.

“Sure, I can do that, but how much is it worth to ya?” Molly looked at him with a cold glare for a moment. He didn’t budge. She let out a sigh, took out 5 gold coins, and handed them to him.

“Thank you pretty, go to the old crumbling church tonight at 6 Pm. sit in the last pew on the right side farthest from the aisle. If he is not there within two minutes he doesn’t want any business with you and you must leave immediately." He bid her a farewell, then walked off. Molloy followed this exactly, and sure enough, a man had shown up.

“what do you need done, and how much are you paying?” the man asked.

‘This must be Dante’, she thought. She could see why Lillian was so attracted to him, but now was not the time for gawking.

“You are Dante are you not?” she asked. Immediately, he stood up and began to walk away. “Where are you going” she demanded to know. He stopped walking, though his back was still turned.

“Lillian put you up to this I’ll bet. I told her I’m no good for her.” He replied. To this, Molly said,

“forget about what is good for her and what is not. Do you love her as well?” there was a long pause before he replied.

“It does not matter how I feel. She is already set to marry lord Ralf. He can offer her so much more than I can. A better life as a whole.” Molly began to get angry with him.

“How can you even say that? She doesn’t love Ralf you twit! She loves you! She doesn’t care about his money or his power, or even the life he offers! Ralf doesn’t make her happy and that is all Lillian wants! If you love her, go to her. Just don’t pretend it’s for the best!” with that, she stormed out past him. Dante looked around the empty church, suddenly no longer able to suppress his feelings.
