![]() SolitudeA Poem by felioness![]() A time of change.![]() ![]() She walked amid the barren drab of an autumn over-stayed. A slow, uneven, steadfast gait, ... a solitary escapade. Her movements were deliberate, Bespoken of that certain age, time-wrapped in a cloak of solitude, when laughter ebbs then fades. In the cinereous gloom of November, sap slumberous and thickened, she trod the leaf strewn berm of a skeletal season sickened. Above her head the magpies flew. Starkly monochrome against grey skies and as they circled overhead they watched her with their bright black eyes. Soon she stopped beside a time worn tree cruelly stripped of green or golden leaf, yet majestic in simplicity. Beneath this ancient efficacy, a sentinel to her offerings, she scattered breadcrumbs, suet, seeds as the magpies fluttered to her feet. In solitude she watched them eat.
