Laud The Wild OnesA Poem by felionessA Three part Vignette
Vignette I
Beneath summer skies flowers bloom In my untamed garden Goldenrods nod saffron heads Among the wild black-eyed susans Making room for dandelions Smiling at the sun
Vignette II ( Rondelet)
Laud the wild ones! Resisting form and narrow thought Laud the wild ones! Emancipators felled by guns Reformers and the change they sought Disputing dogmas "old school" taught Laud the wild ones!

III (Four part Dialogue: "An Act of Suspense," Act Two, Scene Three )
“D****t Susan, look at all that goddamn junk filling
up your yard! Just look at it! You were always wild as a child and now you're no better. You call yourself an
artist but you’re full of s**t! Girl, it’s high time you give up them stupid
dreams."
”Those are sculptures ma, and that's my wild
garden," Susan answered, feeling both shoulders sag just a little.
“It just looks like crap to me,” sneered the older woman irritably, lighting up a Camel and taking a slow drag. “Just a useless bunch of
rusting crap and a bunch of plain old ugly weeds!”
“Those blossoms cheer me up,” Susan insisted,
rubbing eyes that stung from the acrid words and smoke. Damn, she promised herself that this time
she wouldn't cry. Biting down hard on her trembling lips she stood up a little straighter because she knew crying never
changed a thing. “ I call them my little suns ma, each dandelion you despise makes
me smile. They seem so happy... footloose and carefree and those black-eyed
susans swaying in the wind, well ma, they almost look like me! And see that
lovely goldenrod? Well she’s another blonde a long, long way from the
city .... gee mom, when are you ever gonna start believing in me?" © 2017 felioness |
