The heart is like a football.

Spirals, soars and lands.

Tries to stay on target

To reach intended hands.

Oftentimes, it wobbles.

Shifts and slides off course.

Gets stolen or deflected.

Stripped right from its source.

Resilient, it keeps pumping.

Reception is the key

To make its master happy

And score a victory.

But when the last game’s over,

It aches and shrivels small.

In pain without its player,

The saddest sack of all.
