I Don't Write Anymore

I Don't Write Anymore

A Poem by fallon
"

maybe its just a poetic excuse

"
I don't write anymore.
It's not that I can't,
I just don't want to put on paper
anything I may abhor.

I don't write anymore,
and yet my soul aches every day
for that chance to explore
the world as it seems
through paper and ink,
its rivers and streams,
and how it makes me think...
and think....
and think.
But I don't write anymore
because I blink
and the thought is gone.

I don't write anymore.
Sometimes I fear its because
the world just isn't as beautiful
as it was before.
It's purples and greens,
and how vivid my dreams were
in that time
before sleep was a chore.

I used to write late at night
when even the mountains
were tucked in tight
under layers of snow.
I could hear them breath
that sleepy breath
cold and slow
and full of rest.
And it felt like home,
that sound would be my
metronome.
I would write for hours
which felt like years.
There were no mistakes
because I had no fear.
Each line that I wrote
carried such allure
with truth and meaning
that felt undoubtably pure,
but now, you see,
I just don't write anymore.

This to me just flows. It is a song with a chorus and verses. And although the subject may sound initially negative. It is not. Quite the reverse. And I like it a lot.

I like this style of telling a story while inserting a few rhymes. How identifiable are your words, and they captured my own occasional thoughts on the subject. Sometimes the ideas and words come easy and then someone turns off the tap. "What gives?" we may think. Great writing, my friend.

Thank you Samuel!
"What gives" indeed. I want to turn the tap on by my own will. If only tha.. read more
This piece describes the condition of poetry so much - our desire to communicate with the world, mixed with this fragile desire of not wanting to be hurt by it anymore. I think being a poet can be complicated at the best of the times.

There was a really lovely flow to this piece. It keeps the attention span of the reader with its accessible language all of the way through and I appreciated that about it.

Thank you for sharing.

i love this .. brilliant says i! it is so universally relateable to all creative expressive people .. and in the end i am strangely filled with happiness .. i think this is a poem that has begged to be written for a long long time .. and just the way you wrote it .. mighty fine stuff! peace and joy

What a compliment! Thank you. Relating to others is always the greatest joy.
Such a lovely cadence
A surrendering lullaby
like drifting away
from trying to go
to sleep and letting
the peaceful night
take you to your
dreams.
Wise and beautiful
Poetess sings.

Welcome dear

as I worked slow through these fine words, I not only felt an increasing sadness, but also, a certain familiarity as if I had been here before .. then it dawned on me .. the affliction that both underpins and may well also have inspired them is one that most of us will have experienced from time to time ..
I believe it to be a cyclic thing both compelling and constraining in its own write .. I hope you write on dear fallon .. it would be a travesty if you did not .. Neville
