Chapter 2A Chapter by Jessica A. FaustThis is where Mistist enters, she's an Angel.Mistist lay staring up at her pure white ceiling for a couple minutes before she covered her head and fell back to sleep. Her name meant Mist Keeper in Angelian language. She was a Mist Angel. They were the seventh rank out of ten ranks in the Angels groupings and they helped pour mist from the skies. Mistist awoke to the sun just starting to rise. She pulled the blue and white blanket over her head to hide her glowing silver eyes from the blinding light that came through the window to the far right of her room. All of a sudden her shooing star shaped alarm clock went off. She slammed her hand down on the button that was on top of the clock. She whimpered. "Aw, I don't wanna get up yet. Can I get five more minutes Mr. Alarm Clock?" She sat up in her cloud of a bed and rubbed her eyes. Her laced night gown was crumbled up around the top of her legs, sort of sticking there. She pulled it down as she stood up, placing on some bunny rabbit slippers. She creeped her way to the bathroom. The bathroom was just the way across from her bed. She looked in the oval shaped mirror, her long silver hair a mess and her halo a frosty gaze. Her feathers on her wings were a mess too. She ignored this and opened up the shower. She threw off her night gown and then everything else, so that she was bare. Her wings covering her body because she was scared somone would know her impurities. She jumped into the shower and turned on the water. Steam rose from the top of the shower as the hot water hit her cool white skin. Her wings twitched and unferrelled to the warmth of the running water. She ran her hands about her long hair and turned her face up to the warm water. The water swarmed her body, slipping down ever so easily. It warmed her to her core. She lathered soup about herself as her thoughts ran to her forbidden lover. "Oh Stoney. Darling... I wish I got to see you more and without keeping such a secert from everyone. I miss you." Mistist's body shook from the thought. "But at last I must push you from my mind this minute, for fear of being caught. That and I must go to work." Her thoughts finished and she opened the shower door as she turned off the water. A cool breeze hit her and she shivered a little. She snapped up a towel and dried herself. She threw on a pure white gown and went over to the sink, dropping the towel on a rack. Mistist was very organized. She picked up a brush, pushed it through her hair. It glided easily through as though she'd never had a tangle in her life. She placed the brush down, soon as she fixed her wet hair in place, and reached for the toothbrush. She put some wax upon it and began to brush her halo, taken from upon her head. She brushed it roughly, making sure it shined. Once it was glistening, she stepped out of the bathroom hanging the brush on the wall. She flicked off the bathroom light and pranced into her bedroom as she shut the door. She danced around her room, nowfully awake. Mistist was the type of girl who liked to dilly dally a bit. She pranced up to the front door and opened it. She walked out into the sunlit world. To her left were the Moon Angel. Angels who helped raise the moon and lower it. They dressed in black and they ranked five among the Angel ranks. Mistist took a right. She murmered hellos and good mornings to everyone and they did the same back. She walked past the Song Angels who ranked nine and stood there for a moment to hear them sing their graceful songs. They had the most beautiful voices. She caught herself slacking off again and took back to her route. She then crossed paths with the Sun Angels. They were Angels who bore the sun's rising and falling. They were dressed in bright yellow, just like the sun. They ranked four. Mistist wondered her way to the Mist Angels fort. This was where she worked. She helped poor the mist down the skies for all the plants to drink. She didn't do it everyday; just on the days a death was present or in early morning and late night, when HE commanded. HE was the ruler of this place, the watcher, the listener. Rarely did HE interfer with them, only to give them tasks. The mist swirled all around her and she giggled. She loved that feeling. She played with the mist as to greet it as a friend. She slowly brought some to her lips for a taste. "Very fresh, Unza." Mistist called to her dear friend and "co-worker". Unza was a tall pale girl with strawberry locks. The two girls had grown up together. "Hay Mistist! Get over here and help me, will ya!" Shouted Unza. Mistist rushed over to the spell casting circle, where many Mist Angels were hard at work. They were a chosen group of six to ten Angels. Mistist was number two in the rank and Unza was three. Number one was a male, which was rare for a male to be anything but Warrior Angels or Rain Angels. He was the ony male in the group. He was rarely there though. Warrior Angels who ranked ten, protected the heavens from Demon attacks. They were all males. Rain Angels, a mixture of males and females, ranked six. They dressed in grey and poured down the rain, which helped everything grow. Mistist and Unza joined the group as they began to chant. "Goddess of Mist and Mother Nature, hear us now. Give us power to bath this land. We call you forth and give you our hand. Keep it pure and we will stand.... as one." The group chanted as the mist began to whirl feriously around the group. It pulled a wind with it. Mistist's hair blew up and Unza giggled. Mistist glared at her and she laughed harder. It was hard not to, when such a feeling of power and happiness poured over you. Soon the whole group was in laughter, holding onto each other. Then, the blast of pure water hit them all, putting a silence to them. All of them looked about, Mistist and Unza looked at each other with smiles on their faces and burst into endless giggles. They had quite the friendship. They latched onto each other with hugs everywhere, the ones of the giant bear-hug kind. They danced about in the water like little kids, even though they were teenagers in body, elders in mind. Unza was the only one who Mistist had told about Stoney. She was very accepting. The two girls stopped laughing and dancing about in the water and went to watch it poor from the skies. It was their favorite part of the working. It was truly beautiful. Mistist and Unza felt lucky, most Angels got to see this once in a lifetime. They got to see it everyday. That's what Mistist loved most about this job. Unza said. "Look a little rainbow, Mistist. It's so pretty." "Yeah. Yeah, it is." Mistist said awed and squeezed her best friend. "Well, I better be going. I have some things to do." Mistist said, giving Unza one more hug. "Ok. Catch you later." Unza said hugging her friend back. Mistist walked back to her room. Thinking about the fact she just lied to her best friend. "Why couldn't I have just said I was tired?" Mistist asked herself. When she reached her door she popped in the key, opened the door, stepped in, and shut the door behind her. When Mistist got back to her room, she laid down on her bed terribly tired from all the excitement. Unza always got Mistist out of her box, circle, whatever you wanted to call it. She turned over onto her stomach, faced buried in the pillow of fluff upon her cloud shaped bed. She slowly began drifting off to sleep and dreaming of her sweet Stoney. Mistist suddenly appeared in a candle lit room. In the room there was a large bed with red things on it. At first Mistist thought blood, but once she got closer she realized they were rose petals. "Now who could have done this?" Misist asked out loud. "I thought you would have guessed." Stoney said turning on some music. "What are you doing here? Wait... where are we? "Mistist questioned. "Hush, hush. This isn't a time for words." Stoney said, reaching for Misist. She couldn't help it, She wanted despriately to be in Stoney's arms and soon she was. She looked up at Stoney and said. "I'm so glad you're here. I've missed you so much. It's been..." Stoney stopped Mistist's mindless rambling with a soft kiss and Mistist returned it. Stoney soon had Mistist pushed up against a wall. Mistist giggled and pushed Stoney upon the bed, scattering the perfectly placed rose petals. The two girls clung to each other, looking each other in the eyes. Stoney was the first to break eye contact. She moved Mistist's head to the side to reveal her neck. She began nibbling Mistist's neck from top to botttom, ever so softly. Mistist twitched at the sensation, placing her hand on the back of Stoney's head. It was some sort of encouragement for Stoney. She pulled up Mistist's gown, feeling upon her legs. The smooth skin beckoned Stoney to continue. She finally looked up at Mistist and kissed her more passionately. She looked Mistist in the eyes and said, "Do you know how much you mean to me?" "No. How much?" replied Mistist. "More than the number of stars in the night sky." Stoney said in a voice overflowing with love. "Aw, you're so cute." Mistist smiled and blushed. Stoney was so sweet and Mistist was happy to be with her. She spent what seemed like forever looking into Stoney's green eyes, smiling up at her. "You're beautiful." Mistist said, pulling Stoney down to recieve some more sweet forbidden kisses, no longer wondering how they got here or where they were. All she knew is she was here with her lover and she was happy. They both were happy. They contiued to kiss as Stoney's hands moved through Mistist's hair gentally. Watching as her lover's eyes fluttered. "She's amazing. What I'd kill to have her forever. Her precious would be forever her's and only her's." Stoney thought determined to make forever happend. The two girls continued to kiss. The kisses full of endless passion. A banging at the door awoke Mistist from the pleasant steamy dream. She was upset about that and reluctant to get out of bed, but she did. She rubbed her eyes as the banging continued. "Hold on a second, please." She said, straighting her dress. She pulled the door open and it was Unza, and she was crying. "Unza! What's wrong?" Mistist said concerned. "It's.. It's my brother." Unza said having a hard time getting it out and not crying at the same time. She tried really hard to make her voice steady. "What about your brother?" Mistist asked, pulling her friend into her room. "He's... He's dead. The Demon's got him." Unza said, steady voice crumbling into tears. Unza fell to her knees in front of her friend. "Oh Unza." Mistist said, holding her friend tightly. Unza's brother was a Warrior Angel and one of the bravest too. Unza's brother had protected Mistist tons of times in the past. The two girls cried and held eachother rather tightly. Mistist felt bad about having that dream, but she would tell Unza later. She told Unza everything. The girls continued to hold each other rather tightly. Unza's brother was her hero and Mistist knew this all too well. The only thing she could think of doing at this point was to stay calm and don't plot evil schemes. "I swear if I ever see a Demon in person, I will kill them." Mistist said with tears and a fist of fury waving about in the air. "Yeah! I'm right there with you." Unza chimmed in, whipping tears from her eyes and off her cheeks. "Now lets cheer ourselves up with some ice cream and a movie." Mistist said, trying to be the stonger one of the two girls. She had to be, Unza was very fragile; very pure. Mistist went into her kitchen and opened the freezer. Then, she pulled out some chocolate chip mint ice cream. There were two small containers of it. Mistist hadn't had time to stock up like she normally did, on her favorite midnight treat. She then went to her drawers in the kitchen and pulled out some spoons. She walked back into the living room and handed Unza one of the small tubs and a spoon. She walked over to the movie cabnet and put in Finding Nemo, a movie she loved to death, and hit the play button. She walked back over to the couch, where she had sat Unza down, and sat beside her. Soon the girls were both in laughter, stuffing their faces with delious ice cream. "Thanks, Mistist." Mummbled Unza, with a mouthful of ice cream. "No problem, dear. Anthing for my best friend. I wouldn't be much of a friend if I didn't cheer you up, now would I?" Mistist chuckled. "No, I guess you wouldn't." Unza giggled seeing Mistist's point. "Plus he was important to both of us. He was like a brother to both of us. Hay if you want you can stay the night." Mistist said, too into the movie to realize what she just said. "Yeah. I'd like that." Unza said looking down, hiding her sadness. Mistist got up and hugged Unza, she said. "Don't worry." Later that night when Unza had went to sleep, Mistist snuck out of the room. She needed some air. She need to get out of there, just for alittle bit. She walked down the path past the Moon Angels and up to the Gateway to Heaven. She was greeted by some Guardian Angels. Guardian Angels ranked three and helped to protect souls from being sent to Hell or being devored by escaped souls from Hell. "Hay Mistist. How's it going?" Said the Guardian Angel. "Oh! Pretty good." Mistist said as the two walked past each other. Mistist continued walking up to the Gateway to Heaven. "Who goes there?" Said one of the Gate Guardian Angels. Gate Guardian Angels ranked eight and watched over the Gateway to Heaven. They alerted the Warrior Angels. "It's me Mistist. I just wanted to get some fresh air and relax for a bit. Is that ok with you? She said. "Oh Misist. Yeah, go right ahead." Said the Gate Guardian Angel as she opened up the Gateway to Heaven for Mistist to walk through. Mistist walked out the Gateway to Heaven and out into the sky. She stepped up onto a cloud that drifted slowly to the ground. When it got half way down the sky, she knew it was time to hop off. This was as far as the cloud would take her. She spread her white feathered wings and flew off the cloud with grace and ellegance. She began slowly drifting to the ground, a most beautiful site. She was glad to be getting away from it all. The sadness was too much for her. She felt bad about leaving Unza but she just couldn't stand being in the atmosphere of sadness. Her feet touched the ground and she folded up her wings. She walked along the ground gentally. She walked on a sidewalk gazing up at the trees. The green trees casted shadows on the ground as the sun began to set. She walked into a park. In the park, there was huge fountain. Mistist sat upon the fountain for a couple minutes thinking. "Why didn't I just tell Unza what was really going on? I'm so stupid for that." Mistist thought. The sun had fully set and the moon was high in the sky. She sat there for what seemed like forever just thinking how she should have told Unza the truth. Mistist had never lied to her best friend and didn't know why she had started now. While Mistist was lost in thought she heard a voice. Curious she walked to where the voice was. Steady but slow in her motions as to be cautious. She stood behind a bush watching a playground, as a scene began to unfold.
“What was a young looking boy doing here this late at night when the rest of the town was sleeping?” Mistist thought to herself.
“But, wait... He's not a boy at all. He's a Demon!” Mistist said, anger rising in her, but she dared not to move a muscle.
“Why was he here, and talking to himself? That's odd.” She thought.
The boy was thrashing about in his movements quite franticly. As though he were being pushed and pulled by somethin.
“What is he up to?” She wondered.
“Is there something wrong with him?” She questioned.
“Should I go and help?”
Mistist was in a battle with herself trying not to help the poor soul, but wanting to. He looked like he was in so much pain.
“Is this what Demons went through everyday? Pain and suffering?” She thought again, with concern on her face.
“How can I just stand here and watch this?” She thought.
Then she remember, “That's right. Demons had killed Unza's brother. I feel no pity for you, foul Demon.”
The boy on the playground had, what looked like, suddenly stopped breathing from Mistist's prespective. He was just standing completely still, eyes bugged out. Hand held to his chest, as though he'd been stuck by something. She could tell by the look on his face, he was in an awful lot of pain. It stayed this way for a long time.
“How long can he hold his breath? If he dies he dies.” Mistist thought.
Just then the boy started breathing. He fell to his knees and began crying. Terror poured through Mistist.
“What have I just witnessed, a Demon crying?” She thought with eyes wide open in surprise.
“I'd alway been told Demons were cold and heartless, yet this one cries?” She murmered under her breath.
The boy grabbed at his chest. He said something that Mistist didn't know if she had heard quite right.
He said, “So I had been shot to death in my Human life?”
Mistist looked even more surpised and nearly fell over, making alot of noise. She catch herself and began running off. The boy got up when he heard the sounds looking about. Mistist ran as fast as she could, forgetting she could even fly; to scared to fly. She feared the Demon would get her for seeing what she had seen. When she was at a safe distance from him, she opened her wings fast and took off into the sky. She flew as fast as she could, terror coursing through her veins. She hadn't meant to stumble upon this. She hated that she had now. She retuned to the Gateway to Heaven and hurried through the gates. She ignored the calls from the Gate Guards.
“Mistist what's wrong?” They said.
All she knew was that she had to get to her room, where it was safe, and never tell a soul what she had just seen. She wouldn't even tell Unza, because she would hate her for saying she felt pity on the young Demon's soul. She rain the whole way to her room. When she reached the door she composed herself, though her eyes showed all the scared emotion she felt. She opened the door quietly and slipped in, hoping Unza would still be asleep. Sure enough she was and Mistist slipped into her bedroom and into her night gown, without waking Unza. She then slided into her bed, making little noise, and pulled the covers up over her head.
She was shaking all over from the sight.
“So everything they told me about Demons may be wrong?” She thought.
“Why would they put such ideas in our heads? Did they not want us at peace? Are we truely enimies for the reason that the orginal Devil broke his promise to the orginal God? Why are we then, fighting a battle that is long past our time? Is it that pride gets in the way?” Mistist began to question everything that she had come to know and love.
“Why also must I not love another women?” The question came across random as she thought it.
“What does that have to do with anything? That only deals with me.” She thought a bit off topic.
“I can't believe they lied to me.” She thought begining to cry.
“Everything they told me could have been a lie.” She thought again and again.
“How dare they! Why must I put forth effort to be good, if they are a bunch of liars?” She thought tears streaming down her ghost white cheeks.
She was in a daze. She was confused and scared. But most of all, she felt betrayed by all the Angels who had told her things she now believed were lies. She should have helped that poor boy.
“He'd really said what I thought he'd said. The thing about being a Human once.” Mistist thought regaining control of her emotions.
She'd once been a Human herself, then again every Angel soul had once been a Human. She just didn't know that Demons had been Humans too. No one had told her that part.
“They think they can just keep things hidden from us. That's not fair to us. We should be able to know everything that happens and everything that is the truth.” She sort of spoke in a whisper.
Unza stirred in the living room, on the couch she had fallen asleep on. She heard some whispering. She didn't know who was talking but she assumed it was Mistist talking to herself. She did that alot when she had something major on her mind.
“Maybe she's still worried about me mourning for my brother.” Unza thought, moving up from the couch and walking to Mistist bedroom.
“Hay Mistist, you ok?” Unza said as she flicked on the light to Mistist's room.
“Yeah. I'm good. How are you feeling though” Mistist said with her hands over her eyes, because the light was so bright.
“Mind if I lay in here with you. I'm feeling fine and all, just some company would be nice.” Unza said with her arms around herself.
“Yeah. Yeah, sure come on and get yourself up here.” Mistist said moving over on her bed to make room for Unza.
Unza crawled up under the covers, leaning her head on Mistist's shoulder. Mistist pulled them up over her own shoulders and tucked Unza in. Then she turned out the light. It was a short time before Unza was asleep again. All Mistist could do was stare up at the ceiling wondering if that Demon boy was ok. She couldn't get him out of her head. The worry consumed her.
“Why didn't she do the right thing? Why didn't she take a stand for herself.” She thought one last time before her heavey eyes began to close.
“Please don't let me dream tonight.” She thought as a last thought before sleep came in to take her away.
A few seconds later and she was asleep dreaming once again of Stoney and how they first met. © 2010 Jessica A. FaustAuthor's Note
