Peeping Tom(s)

Peeping Tom(s)

A Poem by fattycbreezy52

13th century scenario,
Dealing with an Anglo-Saxon lady.
Who rode naked
Through the dismal streets of
Her own abode,Coventry.

Her benevolence,
Shedding tears for the oppressed humanity.
Entered into repetitive appeals
To a tyrant husband
Who had imposed upon them
An exorbitant taxation.

"Strip naked and ride the horse through the streets"
Only then would he grant her wish.
Taking him at his word
She did the aforesaid.

Riding on a white horse
Who took pity on her
And cladding herself with the only ornament of a woman;
Her long black hair
She set out to do a favour on humanity.

The only thing she asked was to empty the streets
Since,desolation was her only resort
Allowing no public,no man
To badly glimpse her femininity.

But,there are corrupt folks
Folks called "Peeping Tom(s)"
Who cannot control their beastly desires
And make holes in the shutters
To view a woman at her worst"

wow... what a wonderful piece of poetry you have penned, FBC... you have a knack for painting a picture with words... and it haunts me to know that we still live in a voyeuristic society... while this is taken from a story, centuries old, there are universal truths living in your words... beautiful write!

Haha, thanks Nisreenaa:)
"she found fame and made her name, a hollywood director who came into town...and "
asked her if she wanted to be a star...but she simply wanted to not be watched while she abided her husband's wish in order to unlevy the tax...

a very sad piece....but i agree...a woman in her natural skivvies is not at her worst...
and in a metaphorical sense, the bare naked person inside and out is the most alluring.

a beautiful poem. however, i would have to disagree to say that being nude is not the woman's worst. if a man looks with affection she merely be a goddess to his eyes. if looking with hunger in his eyes she be but an object. if he doesn't look in any way then she be nothing to him. none of which besides the last, in my opinion, be the woman's worst for she will always be wanted. so if she views herself as a goddess then men will treat her as such. if she sees herself as less then she will be that. it's all in how well you smile at yourself in the mirror. regardless this was an tantalizing read and i look forward to more. great work here.

Nice twist on the story of "Lady Godiva". I have not heard the story in a long time and it was nice to be reminded of it and your use in your fine pen work. Thanks you for sharing a lovely work.

Very easy to appreciate good work.
Wow a great tribute to Godiva and the legend. I live near Coventry which was also remorselessly bombed during the second world war.
