Who is Lance? Is this a metaphore? Is that really funny or is this badly written?!! What?

Lance was feeling lonely. He realized that feeling lonely just makes you feel lonely.

He thought about this for a while. Thinking didn't get him anywhere.

He decided to cheer up.

 

Being cheerful requires a lot of effort. He concluded that he wasn't in shape for this sort

of exercise.

 

Some of the guys were going to be playing darts at the pub tonight. He liked thinking about tonight

because it was farther from today and much closer to tomorrow.

 

Lance was thinking too much.
