don’t want to fall asleep/don’t want to wake up

don’t want to fall asleep/don’t want to wake up

A Poem by Faati Jaan

I often awake from nights heavy of tragic dreams,
dragging the melancholy behind me like chains,
the clangor resonating a relentless reminder
of the somber events that never transpired..

I'm familiar with those dreams. Thankfully, I don't have them often, but when I do, the residue of them can hang about and make me wonder if something really did happen, or is about to.

Once again, your metaphor is skilfully applied and of superlative clarity.
