A poem I wrote after I hurt someone by being stupid and selfish
I walked up to a mirror
I saw beauty, love and grace
I stared into that mirror
But I could not see my face
I washed away the pretty lies
The ones I had always used to hide
To hide the wicked selfish thing
The thing I hated too much to see
I stared into the mirror
And for once I saw myself
I saw the things I'd done to you
I saw how I truly felt
I hope that you will not hate me
Because I had refused to see
The wicked ugly thing
The thing that was me
Not bad for your first piece. A few thoughts if I may...
1. Do care, please. You must care if you truly want to write.
2. One of the best writers I've read, j, http://www.writerscafe.org/writers/Jill%20Martin/
mentioned to me once that "less is more" when it comes to poetry. Spend some time on her page and study how she captures unbelievable emotion with just a handful of words. The point is not to overdo it. Don't overwrite.
3. Read as much of the work of others at the Cafe as you can. It will help you develop your own style. And read the classics too.
4. Write with your heart and soul, but have a little fun every now and then too.
5. Keep writing. The more you write, the better you become.
6. Again, care about your work. Don't obsess about it, but care.
this is actually really good.
and i write better poetry after its been a long time since the last time i wrote something, because all the things ive thought since then come out into one poem if that makes sense.
I like how it starts of with this beauty, who then see's what others do. Something quite a few people I know should do, perhapes even my self? *smiles*
