A look at peeps after the death of Pope John Paul II

RIP Pope John Paul II (written the day after his death)

Today I do not mourn the passing of just a man, but the passing of world heros. Pure souls who risk life, limb, and liberty to better mankind as a whole, not just for one color, creed, religion, or race. People who have fought evil & injustice, famine & poverty, disease & corruption, oppresion & division; not just for one group of people, but for all.

Since the recent deaths in the last ten years of some of the more influential heros of recent time some of us are left asking "Are there any heros for our generation?"

Our parents and grandparents have always had someone tangible to look up to that fit the profile of a hero. Someone everyone, everywhere could respect. But with the last hero of their generation gone we ask 'Who will step up and support and defend mankind? Who will stand between mankind and the forces that seek to destroy us?'

Thanks for writing that, Peachy. I'm not even a catholic, but I came to regard Pope John Paul II as being very special well before his illness and death. More so than any religious leader of our time, he epitomised what a Christian should be. In my mind, I place him along side the likes of Martin Luther King jr and Ghandi as being a true embassador of peace. May his memory never die. Sam
