Helpless

Helpless

A Poem by Todd Ford
"

inspired by watching Wings of Desire

"

Watching a child

Walk obliviously toward a

Speeding car?

Seeing your grandfather

Clutch his chest,

Crumpling to dust?

Dreaming

The unfathomable, but

Eliciting a silent scream?

Angel Damiel

Anxiously circling beneath

Marion’s trapeze?

Detective Scottie

Vertiginously cowering above

Madeleine’s fall?

Why does the cinema captivate?

Are we all dreamers?

B&W angels desirous of

Falling into color?
