SplitA Story by General FrostOutside it was night with a slight overlay of fog. The FBI building all dark but one window and the hallways low light going through the others. The room was lit with a small table lamp. The computer on the table alive with sound as Umar was staying late to type his report for the last case. But the typing abruptly stopped as sharp pain entered his side. Then the sound of the gun shot hit his ears. “It is time to pass Detective Umar.” exclaimed a low voice “ I have shot you were you would die slow and painfully.” “Why?” was all Umar could manage to say as the surprise that he couldn’t get up from his seat hit him. “There is no need of explanation, in the end you will die.” The voice, sounding from a distance. “What have you done, why can’t I move.” Umar said exhausted and in agony. As the figure came out of the shadows from the other side of the room. The shock of who it was unimaginable. How could he. What have I done to deserve this. “I have, how shell I say it, glued you to your chair. Oh and your shoes to the floor. No one will hear your cries for help.” said the figure The figure started a psychotic laugh as Umar started to lose feeling and slip into a coma state.
Wednesday April 23 2008 5:30 A.M. Edgers Apartment
Edger a 5’10” 175 pound man started to wake as his cell started to ring. “Why its only 5:30 not 7:00 yet.” He started to get up as the phone continued to ring. As he dug into yesterday’s pants to get his phone. He moned and growned. “What.” he said as he answered the phone. “Sorry about waking you, but there is something wrong here, better hurry.” Said assistant director Stam. “Is it that important for me to leave now?” Edger said not really happy and barley awake. “Yes. So start moving.” Replied Stam. The phone went dead. A sign that the boss was not in a good mood at all. “Well I guess its time to get ready, fast.” Edger said to him self as he got up and throw the phone on to his bed. “I hope Umar didn’t mess any thing up. I really don’t want to take any crap today.” As he got dressed in his suit for work making sure every thing was on right. He holstered his Glock .40 S&W making sure the safety was on. Then he snatched his keys to his vehicle and left the apartment. Passing by his usual people in the hall and staircase. Saying hi to every one of them. When he got to his car in the Parking garage down the street he was fully awake and ready for action.
7:00 A.M FBI building
As Edger got out of the car from his usual spot and headed for the elevator. He had the odd feeling that he wanted to just not be hear right now. It could have been from the way the boss was talking to him or maybe not. But he got in the elevator anyway and hit the button to his floor. It took a bit to get to his floor but when he got there, their were tons of others standing about. Most of which were by his office. Then he saw the assistant director come out and head his way. “What’s going on why is every one around my office, and where’s Umar. This isn’t ……” Edger was saying when he was cut off by Stam. “It’s about Umar but its not his fault. You may want to see for yourself.” Said Stam in a sad tone “What are you talking about!?” Edger replied pushing his way past the Assistant Director and the mob around his office. When he entered he was greeted with a shocking scene. Umar was siting in his chair dead. Blood all over his cloths and the floor. Shot once in what appeared to be the liver because he was white and most likely that was almost all his blood. “What happened here? Why hasn’t anyone moved him from his position yet!” Edger said losing his seriousness and filled with anger and sadness. “Well it appears that he was glued to his chair and his feet to the floor.” Said one of the detectives that were still taking notes about the scene. “Stam you need to put me on this case.” Edger said knowing full well that he may not be put onto it, do to emotional ties. “Well I’m not so sure you should be.” Stam said as he walked forward from the crowd. “Wait a second, am I under suspicion of this.” Edger said starting to get angrier. “No I’ve told the others to drop any evidence that would have been there do to sharing an office. But if there is any evidence pointing to you then yes.” Replied Stam kind of shocked by the question. “I guess you can join the investigation. But we want this guy in undamaged if possible.” “I’ll try my hardest not to.” Edgar said knowing he was maybe pushing it a little bit. “For now I want you to go home and try to get a hold of yourself. Tomorrow we’ll get started and most of the evidence should be processed, and I’ll have the forensics’ notes of the evidence. Maybe if lucky some suspects.” Stam stated “Fine. See you in the morning, early this time, every one.” Ordered Edger as he pushed his way back trough the mob of people. When he got past and to the elevator, there was a “Psst” from behind him. When he whipped around there was the night shift janitors. “What do you want?” “I think I may be able to help with the case I worked last night and…” he began as Edger Throw him round and handcuffed him. “Hay Process this suspect.” Edger said as he pushed him to one of the agents down the hall. “See you in the morning.” He finished as he entered the elevator. “ I think I’ll hit the shooting range today to cool down.”
8:05 AM FBI shooting Range
“Ha Mac how’s things, I’m here to shoot some targets up.” Said Edger “So you just heard the bad news up stairs. I my self-wont go and look Umar was a good guy and shooter. There is no reason to swarm his body like they are, most of them just want to get a look at the body.” Replied Mack sounding like he was not really happy about the men up stairs. “Ya, I had to push my way in to and out of the room. No need to talk about it any more, just give me some guns and targets to shoot up.” Replied Edger just wanting to drop the subject. “Here this may just do what you want. A M16 and 12-Gauge to blow the crap out of stuff. What kind of targets do you want?” “Just set me up with some manikins. That’ll make me happy.” “He you go. Prepare for some manikin carnage.” When Edger put his headphones on the first target came up. When he shot at the manikin with the 12-Guage the top half of the manikin blow apart. After about a two hours of shooting Edger felt a lot better and was ready to go home and relax. “Well I guess its time to go, thanks for the fun time. Be back later in the week.” “Well hay hope you feel better by then.” Said Mac in good bye. “See ya later.” Replied Edger on his way out. When he got to the parking garage he was ready to go and rest.
11:23 AM Edgers Apartment
When Edger entered his apartment he went strait for his couch and laid there and turned on the radio and closed his eyes. The relief of just lying down was amazing and the emotion started to dissipate. He started to fall back to sleep.
3:09 PM When Edger woke he was amazed at how long he was out. “crap its already three. Guess its time to eat somethin.” Edger got up and went strait to the kitchen to get some food. He grabbed a pop and made a sandwich, and he wolfed it down. After that food break he went and thought about what he was going to do tomorrow for the rest of the night. Before he went to bed he turned off the radio and got some water. As he lay in bed he switched his alarm to 5:30 AM. Then he was out cold in less than fifteen minute’s.
Thursday 24 2008 5:00 AM
As he got up, his alarm hasn’t yet gone off. He went and did his usual morning routines. To his surprise he was ready quite quickly. He grabbed his keys and was out the door. When he reached his car he realized that he’s going to be to work about a half-hour early.
6:35 AM FBI Building
The parking garage was almost bare but a few cars here and there. When he reached the elevator he had the feeling that some one was watching him. When he looked around there was no one there that he could see. When the elevator arrived he hoped in and pushed the button to his floor. When he got there was no one in the hall, the way he liked it. With a sigh of relief he continued down the hall to his office “I think I’ll get started and look for missed evidence.” Knowing full well that most if not all the evidence was already collected and processed. He would have to wait for Stam to get the reports. As he entered the room he noticed that Umar and the chair have been taken out so has the chunk of carpet that had the blood on it. He walked up to Umars desk and look at what was on it. Then he saw a newspaper with a name he that stroke him. “ Falk.” As he read the article he realized who may have done this.
As 7:00 AM grew near others started to show up and go to their offices. Edger was still in his office looking around for evidence when he saw the assistant director. “Sir look at this.” Edger said handing Stam the newspaper. “Me and Umar are the ones that had this guy put away. He was released two weeks ago. Umar did the most damage to him at the hearing and put him in prison. As the officers dragged him out as we watched him go we saw him lip “I will get you.” I told him not to worry about it.” “We look into his location and bring him in for questioning. I have here the notes to all the evidence found. There wasn’t much here. We didn’t get much from the janitor you got last night.” Relied Stam answering the questions that he knew would come after “Let’s see the notes then.” Edger said eger to see them and put this case to rest. “I laid it right on your desk just before I left. I thought you may have seen it when you came in.” said Stam As Stam finished Edger headed for his desk and grabbed the file, sat down and then started to read.
Evidence report
There were a few things that matched agent Edger, but nothing major. Just some hair that matched, exactly same color and thickness. The finger prints on Umars desk and the surrounding area matched all 16 points, the whirls and loops and all. All this evidence has been dissolved from this case do to sharing of the office. Umar was shot with a standard issue Glock .40 S&W. this ballistic evidence does not point a finger at any agent. Anyone can get a hold of one of them. The suspect brought in by agent Edger was dismissed for lack of evidence. Name Percy, night janitor here. Yes he was there that night but in a different wing. Out of ear shot and sight. The only evidence that could put him as suspect is his gun registry and some fingerprints found in the area around Umars desk. He owns a Walther P99 S&W. the striations do not match the bullets side and the gun barrel. The fingerprints matched Percys but this evidence would fall through do to being the night janitor. Till further evidence the suspect will continue work. He did say that he saw agent Edger leave the building between 10:00 or 10:30 that night. The surveillance Video footage has to be looked at still, awaiting agent Edgers presents. Also we will look into this Falk character starting tomorrow (Thursday 24 2008).
Forensics, Questioner LeckterWed 23 2008
“That’s it?” Edger said disappointed by the lack of evidence “Well we were hoping that the surveillance video and this Falk guy would fold out and reveal the killer. If not we have nothing else to run on. Leckter doesn’t get in till 10:00 AM, it’s about 7:30.” Replied Stam, noticing the disappointment in Edgers voice. “Did the coroner check out the body, what did he have to say.” Said Edger ready to head for the next batch of evidence “Well yes he did. The death was estimated about 11:00 to 11:30. Umar was shoot in the liver, which means it was a painful slow death. He noted that most likely that he went into a coma because the lose of so much blood. The pain most likely prevented him from saying too much. The sticky solution that stuck him there was indeed Super glue, some of that really powerful stuff. The round was found lodged in the back of the liver. That’s all the important info from the Corner.” Said Stam summing up what he was told. “So we have nothing much to go with. Can we grab Falk for questioning? Said Edger, wanting some answers. “We did have enough evidence to get a warrant, his history of crime and he having a problem with you guys was just enough to get it.” Answered Stam “Well then lets get a team together and do the surveillance camera later when we’re done with Falk” replied Edger glad that Stam already got the warrant “The team will be us and a few other agents that were here yesterday. I already briefed them the basics of the profile. So they know most of his life. They understand that it maybe hard to bring him down.” Replied Stam. “Lets get moving then the team should be in the room down the hall.”
FBI Garage 8:40 AM
After the collection of the agents and the flak jackets the team was standing next to the FBI van and ready to go. “Ok it is time to get moving. Falk is in an apartment and about in the middle of the building. Lets hope no one is in the room with him when we break in.” announced Stam to the group. “ya, we want him unharmed he needs to talk.” Stated Edger Every one stared to pile into the van. Stam was driving and Edger next to him, the rest were in the back checking their Glocks. When Edger checked his, he was one round short of a full clip. “Weird I swear I had a full clip.” Edger thought to himself. “Everyone ready to go, weapon all ready and loaded.” Said Stam following procedure. “Yes.” Everyone replied.
Falk’s Apartment building 9:12 AM
They arrived outside the building on time. When they called the manager right before arriving he stated that Falk was still in his room alone. “Okay, according to the manager he said that Falk is still in his room alone. That’s good for us. We need to be silent on our way up stairs.” Stated Stam laying down the plan. They all crept up the stairs. When they got to the door Edger signaled for one of the other agents to say what he was told “is this the residence of Falk, if so answer the door.” When no one came to the door they got the ram ready. As Edger and the other agents bashed into Falks room, Falks giant Russian structure stood up form his couch “What” he answered as the agent’s hand cuffed and pushed him out to the van “Your are under arrest for questioning about the murder of agent Umar.” Stated Edger as the Van started on its way back one of the other agents reading his rights.
FBI Building 10:07 AM
In the questioning room Falk was sitting down with the same look on his face as he had years back. The questioning having no effect on the look in the slightest “We haven’t learned anything new, to what we had before we picked him up.” Edger said angrily to the lack of evidence. “Well his story checks out. He was really out of town on business.” Stam stated. “We may never pin anyone to the murder.” “I find someone. I’m going to check the surveillance tapes my self.” Said Edger as he left the room heading to the surveillance room.
When Edger got to the surveillance room he told the officers posted there to set him up with the tapes and leave so he could check them in peace. Knowing the near time of death he just started when he left the room. As he watched himself leave the room about 10 minuets later he saw himself reenter. “What I really don’t remember going back into the office after I left.” Saying to his self. Moments later there was a flash then soon after that he exited with his gun in his hands. “I couldn’t have done it he was my partner.” “Yes you could with a little help. The help I lent.” Said a voice. “What who are you.” Edger said looking around for the source. “I am you, genius, I’ve been dormant till lately” said the voice. “What am I crazy or something.” Edger said worried “No I’m just another state of conciseness.” The voice answered “So I can just make you go away and never come back, all I’d have to do is delete the evidence.” Edger enlightened by the hope. “No it’s not that easy, I will be here for ever. You could delete the evidence though.” The voice said laughing in his head. “No! No! No!” screamed Edger as he ran and left the FBI building forever
2 years later Far in the South
Five murders have followed Edgar, but the knowledge that he’s caught the murderer of Umar. “But how do you stop a killer that’s part of you. Unable to control it’s hunger for death.” With a twitch of his right hand, a new voice takes hold. “You don’t, he take’s control of you. Good mourning world, I’m Umar, Prepare to die. Mwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!” © 2011 General FrostAuthor's Note
