Growing up

Growing up

A Poem by Fariha Tahseen Karim
"

Can you spent a day without the care of your parents? Did this question pop in your head while quarreling with them today? Read this poem to know how your childhood differs from now.

"
With an innocent mind you took birth
Smiling you felt, it was such a simple earth

Your mother tucked you in her arm
You held her, knowing that no one can harm

Your attempt to walk just failed three times
But you kept trying, murmuring your rhymes

Even knowing its uncountable, you start counting the stars
You kept your mom's cellphone safely, knowing that it's hers

You were in the family picture beside your mom
You hugged her quickly, thinking that the toy is an atom bomb

Regretting you took birth
Now you say 'How complicated is this earth'

Now you are in your bed and turned off the light
Remembering about your mom and your recent fight

You shrieked because of the task you just failed
Now you think about prince charming with whom your heart sailed

Hoping your problems will be solved you gaze at the stars
You throw away your mother's cellphone knowing it is hers

You are missing in your new family picture and there is your lonely mom
And now you sometimes wish to blow her with a bomb

Just my thoughts on how people changes from a toddler to a teenager. Most of the time we start flying forgetting to thank the people who gave us wings. So stop whatever you are doing now, just stop and go to the person you love and say 'thank you' . see how sweetness is added to your life

This a a great piece!!! It's funny how we hurt the ones we love. Maybe it's because we know we can get away with it. It's a sick and twisted way of thinking when you step back and think about it. Family should be cherished but it's definitely a 2 way street! Love it! Keep writing, you are very talented

thank you so much. I appreciate you like it!
It does happen in such way but it's a phase which passes. I believe that parents understand it too and let it slide. But all it takes is a level head and little patience. Nice read! Gave realistic transition and it's good how you used the two sides of similar situations. Though the last line is too much, may be you are trying to show an escalated emotion.. In that case it works

welcome!! :)
It's true, we always forget about people who supported us to be at places where we currently are. There should be no one above your parents or the one who was with you when you needed them most.
Great poem, thank you for sharing...:)

I know my mother used to say that to me when I was tired and ready to be put to sleep at night, for me it is a fond memory. We did not see each other too often so the memory of it is sweet. We never over-said the 'I love yous' from when I was a young child to the age of 7. Well things change when family structures change if we do. There is always some kind of conflict.

You had me until the last line with a bomb on your mom. I'm sure that people experience drastic emotions but yeah.......that part was too much for me. That being said..............THE ENTIRE piece before that line was awesome. It gave me a memory of happiness remembering all of the sacrifice and kind things that my Mom did for me and a pang of sorrow that I am no longer in many of the pictures because my life is so busy I don't prioritize properly. I do see my lonely mom........................What a great poem overall. And it's YOURS!!! don't change your line to please someone else.........Keep writing!!

Brr, bombs and so, I never wished that to my mother, even in my biggest quarrels with her. But I do agree we must be grateful for everything we have received from our parents. And I also know that in a period of my life I thought my parents didn't understand me. But now I know for sure that it was not true. :)
