ON THE EDGE OF HERE

by phil roberts

Hard beat heartbeat
Leaving friends with futures
For strangers with pasts
Flash and flame lay claim
Ragamuffin grown for a gangsta
Adrenaline rushing
Kicking and pushing
High deadly flying
Icarus did not dare
Too much hunger here
Grabbing greedy need
Every paranoid squealing day
Promising the same tomorrow
Flash and flame lay claim
But always the soul dies first
