Fait's Book

Fait's Book

A Poem by Lou Woo

a blank notebook

lays open

on someone's desk

a new quil

sits happily

besides the notebook

a bottle of ink

stands proudly

next to the quil

another adventure

waiting desperately

to be written

from the first splotch of ink

from the day we are born

someone has been writing us a novel

our footsteps

they shape the words

that shapes our lives

we grow as the story develops

our footsteps, and those before ours

they form a trail

many more lay ahead

the smooth, curveless path comes to a stop

and greets us with meanders and obstacles

throughout our stories

we go the way our writer has written

we cannot control a story in which some else had written

our author, we know as Fait,

has long decided

which roads we would take

Fait decides who we are

Fait decides who we meet

Fait decides who we love

our stories continue

with a wave of the quil

when splotches of ink come together

and 'til the day Fait's notebook fills

or 'til he no longer knows how to continue the story

we continue to live under his rule

and when we are no more

he decides where we shall go

we are all part of Fait's Book
