The Winner

The Winner

A Poem by Christoph
"

Things You Told Me

"

A drunk man in a burlap sack told me he had no regrets.
He'd lost his Sunday clothes in a drinking contest at the White House.

I won, he said. The president spewed on my slacks, my jacket... everything!

As the man stumbled into the night enjoying the cool breeze against his sack, I thought, sometimes that's what winning looks like.

I was watching some videos this evening of former presidents on YouTube. People are so married to their political ideology/party and become so wed to party politics, that they forget that these men are human beings. They are fathers and husbands, brothers and uncles. They are virtually assassinated in the name of politics, but none of them are all bad and certainly not as bad as politics would paint them. If you ever watch some of these videos, you will see them in a very human light. We need to stop looking at everything through the lens of politics.

Hey, im in total agreement that winning is being able to feel a cool breeze on your sack, especially after being naked all day in the hot sun. Guess it's better to vomit on others than yourself. BTW, was this supposed to be political? Nah? Didn't think so.

Makes ya sick dunnit.. but then, there's no accounting for taste & sometimes judgement can be off too.. give me sensory deprivation any day of the week... nice one sir..

Clever and fun, but a little too on the nose for my taste. I think you could stand to trust your reader more and allow them to find meaning without it being so strongly stated. But I do truly enjoy it.

People are not very good at objectivity sometimes. When you pick a team or join a club you become very defensive and can even fool yourself. Sometimes winning is just like losing except you cheer your own downfall ;)

You're certainly not wrong.
Very nice poem about winning. Some people appear unhappy about winning things while some seemed to enjoy it.
