The Jumper

The Jumper

A Poem by Christoph
"

Things You Told Me

"

On the subject of suicide, the most recent to fall told me he missed it.
The desire to end my life was the only thing that kept me going, he said.

He had also missed the road and impaled himself on a signpost.
The words No Dumping protruded from his posterior.

If I had it to do over again, he said, I would...

makes me think of Lethal Weapon and Mel Gibson's character who constantly said...every day he wakes up with a gun in his mouth, and yet, every day he tries to think of a reason not to.
Anne Sexton in her poem "Wanting to Die"
spoke of how "like carpenters, they never ask why build, just what tools"

lots unspoken here that makes as much sense as what is written...a much deeper write than first meets the eye.

Ouch what a terribly revealing way to go LOL...I had a very morbid friend that used to give me the most ridiculous scenarios for how he was planning to kill himself he really did enjoy coming up with these absurd methods a sort of disparaging Davinci meets Wile E Coyote

Ase
jumping falling
five more seconds
nothing after
then regret hits
forgot the note
rushed out, skipped breakfast
turned the oven off?
dirty dishes
stopping splatting
what we wanted
now that it's over
disappointed

Really makes you think. Even his suicide isn't what he wants, he wants to do it again and again and get it right, and even then he will miss it and want to keep trying. Even killing himself is better than being dead. Nothing is ever perfect. Having nothing to live for is something to live for.

Perfect. Very funny way to do a serious idea. It makes me think of some poetry we read in uni, the goal was to make sense from the absurd ideas but it always made easy sense to me :)
