It’s a bittersweet feeling

Finding that ray of light

That’s been floating around

Just out of your sight

 

It feels like forever

Since you started searching

For the one who’ll make it click

Though that moment might be fleeting

 

No romance involved

No need for lust

Just someone to call a friend

Someone you can trust

 

Life gives and takes

Happiness and sadness

But it’ll also put you on the edge

Engulf you in the darkness

 

Sweet is the feeling of finding

The light that’s been hidden

Hidden from you because

Any happiness is forbidden

 

You’ll feel that little flutter

Like a bird taking flight

Flapping its wings and

Soaking in that warm light

 

But then the bird will land

On a branch that’s black

Entangle its wings in the branches

Stuck. There’s no turning back

 

Bitter is watching that bird

Slowly fade away

Into nothingness

It’s wings beginning to fray

 

The ray of light has moved

Away from the little bird

No longer lighting the way

Her prayers go unheard

 

Bitter is forgetting

That you’re surrounded by darkness

Standing on that ledge

Where even death seems harmless

 

You’ve been fooled again

The light was merely

A reflection of your dreams

That made you see unclearly

 

Destiny has it that you

Will be ensnared

In this vicious cycle

Of trying, if you dared

 

Dared to find that ray of light

That will connect

With that soul of yours

Filled with much neglect

 

Bittersweet is the cycle

Of finding and losing

Of life

Giving and taking

 

Yet, you’ll keep falling

Falling for the same light

That you believe

Will light up the night

The title fits this perfectly. Going about life with dissapointments, the back and forth that it throws you....it's all bittersweet.

This verse resonates with me. To me, this is the definition of the life most of the world lives and the feelings that most of the world feels.
