Snap Monologue

A Story by Faith Mairi
"

Character hopes that she and her people aren't left like dust on the battlefield

"

They tell me that the light will lead everyone out of the darkness. And that I would be the one at the forefront. At times, I don’t fully understand what these people expect from me; what they hope for me to achieve in response to their own wishes and dreams.

One person in a number of billions.

That’s me.

Maybe I can help them, maybe I can win this battle so spectacularly that everyone can return to their mundane lives of fishing, farming, popping out babies and drinking beer. Maybe the stars will blaze so brightly in the night sky and lead us all home from a place of death and destruction and loss. Or maybe, the darkness will swallow the world whole and when the last flower wilts, silence shall settle.

Though I believe that once my people have been butchered on the battlefield they shall all come to realise that I am not their saviour.

I am only their doom.
