Fall In Love

I'm not sure whether or not I consider this a romantic or love poem; in a way, I think this is a romance between people and the creations we make.

I fall in love so many times.

Sometimes,
I fall in love with a book,

Or a film.

And sometimes,

I fall in love with complete strangers,

Who never smile back at me,

When I try to show them

How beautiful they are.

But,
Most of the time,

I fell in love with the idea

Of someone actually being there

When I’m sad, or when I’m happy

 

I fall in love so many times,

That sometimes,

I don’t know

If I am in love or not

As do I, Faith. It may be due to conditioning and what our hearts recognize as perfect connections to survive and react to. I know that coming onto your page the first day I had, I liked you right away!! Some poems make me feel like I'm falling in Love and it never goes away, strangely enough. It's not like the selfish Love that is all too common with that of bonding with others and coming across people who bring out the best in us, whether we expected that or not. Forgive me, I just wanna hug you right now. lol Wonderful poem. It proves a bit tough to critique a poem that moves you because it leaves no room for seeing it from an unbiased point of view. I Love who you are and how you write, so I'm.... I'm clueless, I guess. ......or, accidentally, in Love with your poetry. Which is it?! lol Great job!! Love the pic, too. I have just read the coolest little story by you, about New York, and knowing people who sing in bands, and act who also have places to stay in downtown New York City, the rooms there look like the pic you posted. lol They are pricy, about 4 times the normal paycheck to rent a month, and the places are skinny, wall to wall, which is about 40 feet front to back, and about 8 to 10 feet wide for the whole place!! I remember when this actor named Ethan Hawke hanging out with this girl I knew since kids, and he was talking about how his movies were going to pay for the apartment in New York, but not the groceries, I died laughing.... and then I stopped dying. lol This was like 3 or 4 years before he got married. Just saw Robert Downey Junior filming a movie today with a pig and a pickup truck!! : ) He rented out the whole movie theatre in Hadley, Mass for about $2,000 so he could watch a movie. Oh, the life when it works for you, huh?! lol I wonder what the movie will be named. Said he was playing a lawyer. lol ...after playing Ironman? Sorry!! Love your poems... there is a lot of truth to this...in next to last stanza i would use "i fall in love with the idea" to stay consistent in tense.

don't see a need for the switch..

but yes, we can love so many people and things..and fall in and out of love so much that we may question ourselves.."am i in love or not? and do i really know what it is?

Hey Faith,

This is a doozy. I like the way you use love in many fashions: falling in love with this or that, not just someone. But when you do bring in that someone, that adds to the intensity with which the word love loses when it is thrown around so much. That last pair is truth. You fall in love so many times that sometimes you don't know if you are in love or not. THAT is an incredibly salient issue in today's age. Keep up the good work. I have nothing bad to say about this one!
