still here

still here

A Poem by zach martin
"

its about not being able to protect the one you love. they may be ok but the pain stays

"

cold sweat is all I feel,
I wipe my brow,
I rise from my bed,
images continue to flash through my head.

flashbacks from days long past
I shake my head,
I wash my face,
my heart is finally at a steady pace.

That night rings so clearly
I take a seat,
I listen to the night,
I guess I'll never give up the fight.

A wet summer night
I held you,
you held me,
the night was perfect, that i could see.

I never saw it coming
I was in pain,
I couldn't find you,
I just kept slipping in the midnight dew.

Finally i found your hand,
I grasped it,
I held you close,
I longed to hear your breath the most.

sleep is my only remedy
I lay down,
without a sound,
i turn over, my heart no longer bound.

You look at me, eyes full of knowing
I open my mouth
"Dear..."
"Its ok baby, i'm still here."

I liked this. Had a poignant feel at the beginning, and a romantic ending. Nicely written. -S...
