The Mortal and The Perennial

The Mortal and The Perennial

A Poem by Fergus

The Mortal and the Perennial

I know for a fact that more than likely there isn't anything beyond right this moment now.

I also believe that the most precious commodity in life is love,

which has the paradoxical quality of being both finite and existing outside of time and space.

I know they've gone,

but if they could be here right now,

they would have loved me how they loved me when they were alive.

In a form not dissimilar to dust in the wind or tear drops,

the collective soul of humanity is constantly forgiving, reliving, forgetting, loving, hating,

and most of all,

fearing the unknown.
