Nightmares

Nightmares

A Poem by Fading-to-Gray

I had a dream last night that you left me
You just walked up one day said you're everything I'll never need
You asked me girl please wait to cry
As you turned and walked right out my life.

I had a dream last night I lost my mind
Took all my memories and threw them to the fire
The smoke it rose to fill my lungs
And i'm glad you aren't here to see the monster i've become.

I had a dream last night I sold my soul
So even all these miles away I could buy your way, out of the cold
Everyone says i'm crazy but I was empty anyways
Just a shell of the former girl you couldn't find a way to love.

I woke up to find you that were there
But my fears are still wrapped around my neck
You look so peaceful sleeping next to me
Unaware of this daily war i'm fighting
Every night i'm terrified to fall asleep
Cause what if one day I wake to find my nightmares are reality.

Nightmare indeed. Love, either wanting for it or losing it, can be a terrible and heart-wrenching experience. This poem was wrapped up nicely with that positive but ponderous ending.
