The Theory Of Love

The Theory Of Love

A Poem by Fading-to-Gray

It always fascinated me, the idea of it. What was it, this thing that we all strive for, go crazy for.
What is love that it would be willing die for, give up your life for. how does it work.
what makes someone's heart leap with joy at the sight of one face day after day after day, for years, and why is it that sometimes it just fades away, leaving no obvious trace it was ever there at all.
why is love strong enough to keep a woman with a man who makes her miserable every day, but not strong enough to make the man see the damage he has done, and continues to do.
What is love that it is strong enough to make a man wait till the end of his days for the girl who seeks every single face but his, but not strong enough to see the girl who has stood by him through it all.
And what is love if not both the knife that wounds us and the stitches that heal.
if you think about it, its so scientific, chemicals and hormones in our bodies that produce emotions, that inspire us to want to spend our lives with another person.
don't get me wrong now i'm glad that it exists, but its just so damn chaotic and messy that you have to jump in with zero idea if you will sink or swim, and i've drowned so many times that the leap has become far to terrifying, but yes, its always fascinated me, the theory of it, because in theory it always works so beautifully.

Here's a crash course ;)
There are 3 types of love
Eros= the kind of love that makes you think someone is super cute or think dirty thoughts of them
Philos- the kind of love that you have for a friend or a brother
Agape- the kind of love that a highly spiritual person has for a stranger

Each type of love has no known concrete trigger or psychological basis and makes ansolutely no frieggin sense. You could love someone after days of talking, or you could have someone rescue you from a speeding truck and get to know them for two years but still not love them, because that's the funny thing! Love has no basis. In ANYTHING. You could literally fall in love randomely after someone cracks their neck or does something really subtle. Our brains work in weird ways. Great poem though!

Very insightful and accurate observation... You have presented some perfect points on love and they are truly very perfectly said... Love is the strangest and the most strongest feeling in this universe, it has the power to change lives and destroy lives... Very well written frnd with thoughtful questions in it...

Sincerely
Dhiman

Very accurate and insightful. It's amazing and terrible what an impact just one emotion has on our world.

This is very insightful... your very observant. I think what you have written is a mix between love and lust. Lust being the object that produces temptation. Have you ever read, Song of Solomon 8:6 "Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord."

Love as strong as death is an overwhelming idea of its power.

WOW!! I love this!! It poses such deep questions in which I have often wondered before as well. This piece is really touching and intriguing. It is so full of emotion too. A really excellent job. I love how you write things that are sometimes seen so simple but you write them in such a way that it really hits home. This kind of reminds me of your "two trees" poem. You have a very active mind, and it creates makes simple words such beautiful poems and stories.
