A Chapter by F1r3Wire

Home to hir is transient, it changes and moves with hir, parts of hir home are constant, other parts move with hir. Where sie normally lives is a wagon, it travels the roads as sie does, it's somewhere sie can retreat to no matter where sie is. But this home is small, there's a living room in the front, the kitchen in the middle and a shower room in the back. It's all sie needs but it's still small, and as it moves nothing can be left, everything has to be stowed to allow hir to move safely. This is the home that everyone who knows hir has seen, it's safe for them to do so, as it's transient.

Hir static home stands alone on the moorlands of the North, it reflect hirself in so many ways, it's ages old but new at the same time, and there's a lot more to it than meets the eye. From the outside it's a tumbling down thatched cottage, windows from the bedroom poke thought the thatch at irregular intervals, the front door looks like it is hardly used.

The back door is well used, the bowed stone door step shows that, it opens into the cottages kitchen, it's normally warm in here, the large range sees to that. The range runs along the back wall of the kitchen, with a large stone sink next to it, a well greased hand pump sits by the sink. A heavy oak toped table runs along the front wall of the kitchen, a door in this wall would open into the living room, but there is no longer a door just a frame. A door in the side wall opens into the lean-to pantry, it's stone floor and shelves providing a cold area. Stairs run up the other side wall, a door under the stairs opens into the bathroom.

The living room is built for the old ways, it's built around the fire place, this fire place is a trick it has no back so it heats the living room and the study behind it. A door past the fire place opens into the study, the front door looks much neglected, next to it a well worn bureau stands half open. There are a pair of couches in the middle of the room facing each other over a low table, the table stands on a rag rug. In the back corner a worn wooden rocking chair sits between two well used book cases, the cases are full and books are stood on their sides to fit even more onto the shelves. A large oil lamp hangs from the ceiling, but covered in dust, the room is mostly lit but the numerous candles scattered around the room. The walls are hung with photos of far away places, memories of other times.

The study next to the living room is also crammed with books, the only wall space not occupied by book shelves are the windows and a space for a desk looking out the side window. In front of the fire place there is a battered leather couch and matching chair with a small dark wood table in front of them, the wood made darker by years of heat from the fire. The desk is scattered with paperwork, some on sheet paper some on rolled parchment, a quill and two glass pen sit in a tray next to an ink well. The leather top of the desk shows many imprints from being worked at, an oil lamp sits on either side of the desk to provide the most lighting possible, another oil lamp hangs from the ceiling, these lamps are well used and tended.

The bedroom up in the thatch is simple, four windows give it a spectacular view out over the moors, in the centre of the back wall sits a double bed, with a pair of small tables, a pot bellied stove sits one side of the door. A wardrobe lines the other side of the door. The floor is bare boards with rugs they cover most of the floor the is used. A half burnt candle stands in a holder on one of the tables, the wax has pooled into the tray below the candle. A tin bed warmer hangs from the wall next the stove, it's open to allow it to dry after it has been cleaned out.

The bathroom is a master piece in white porcelain and copper, there's a large bath tub, a sink and toilet. Large red fluffy towels hang from some of the hot pipes that serve to warm the towels as well as heat the room and move the water.

A little way from the house stands hir barn, but these days sie keeps no live stock, sie doesn't have the time for it. The barn houses the larger items and vechiles that sie uses on a regular basis. Other items that are less well used are housed in massive shipping containers, these are buried in a small hillock to keep the look of the land.

But as with everything in hir life all is not what it seams, there is a book on a shelf in the study, it looks no different than any of the other books in there, it's unremarkable, but it causes wondrous things to happen. Deep below hir house there is another world, this is the world that no one sees, the secret world where sie is a phantom, know to no one. This world is a maze of corridors and rooms, there is little sense to the layout, this home expands as necessary, never staying the same for too long.

Massive vaults and store houses hold everything sie could need for a long time, some of the thing they hold will probably never move. They're relics of hir past, but sie keeps them in storage, just in case sie ever needs them. One thing sie has learnt in all hir time is that some things become useful again no matter how old they may seam at the time. The cage contains the tools of hir trade, sie'll always deny what's stored in there.

There is another home down here, but here it's modern, more compact than above, it's a home in two rooms. The living room that looks like any you'd find the the modern world, there is still a fire, it stands in the middle of them room. A couch faces a display system over a low table, one wall houses the small kitchen area and a bed folds out of other wall. The other room is the bathroom but down here it's different, it's modelled in a style half a world away, the bathtub occupies half the room.

The organ room is where sie'll spend most of hir time down here, the massive engine stands always ready for hir, it helps in hir quest. A wall covered in screens, the seat is well used the letters are worn off the typing keyboards, the musical keyboards are there for when sie has a moment. As sie works the massive engine sie'll touch the wall where images appear to move them and to work with them. When sie is working the system sie becomes part of it, and it part of hir.

The workings for the massive system live in the it below the organ room, here it's always cold, the system radiates heat and massive heat exchangers struggle to keep it cool enough to work. It is rare these stacks fall silent, even when sie's not here they're always working spinning away working on the quest, looking at the world.

The lab looks like a mad scientist has decided to diversify into the computer sector, massive arrays of glass contains sit by electronic hardware. Here is where sie creates the smaller physical items and the potions that sie uses. The larger items are created in the work shops, these are further way, under the barn where things can be bought to the surface. A beam crane stands ready to haul even the heaviest hardware up to the surface, or lower it into the deepest shop.
