The Common FolkA Poem by Barbara Walkerwritten when thinking about our soldiers and war
We, the people,
the common folk, the store clerk, the plumber, the cook, the secretary, the husband and wife, love our country, love our freedom, love our way of life. Though, we have many faults, we are not a barbaric people. We'd like to live our lives in peace, seeking the knowledge and happiness we desire. Oh, if only wars would cease. We detest the cruelty, we abhor the killing, but, freedom is never cheap, we know it has its cost; the price has been many loved lives lost. The citizens who defend our freedom, stop their individual pursuits, joining the service, the army, the navy or they become a marine and when one goes to war, life is anything, but serene. Despite their inner fears, they are proud to serve, keeping the U.S. our country, they fight for us all, making freedom possible for you and me. I hope the day is near, when people don't force their religious beliefs, their politics and their way of life on others. This world would be a better place, if we all could be, as brothers. © 2012 Barbara WalkerReviews
