Just What Have You Gained?

Just What Have You Gained?

A Poem by Barbara Walker

There is no shining light,

clouds are overhead

and I've never known

such a large queen bed.

Out of the blue,

tears spring to my eyes

and this house echoes

with all of my sighs.

My heart hurts,

a real physical pain.

I want to know,

just what have you gained?

You come and go, as you please

and, though, I love you so much,

I cannot abide this,

I'll have to live without your touch.

You won't talk to me,

so, I have no idea what is wrong

and now, my trust in you-

is gone.

I'm seeing only darkness,

it's difficult to see the sun,

I never thought I'd see the day

when you and I, were not as one.

Your simple way of expressing emotion makes this poem a sad and powerful lament.
Well done.

I like the flow of thoughts in this poem. You told a sad story. Hard when two people separate and we must learn to live alone. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
