My life didn't turn out, as I'd planned, the biggest understatement in all the land. Here I am, aged fifty-eight and some days, getting out of bed, fills my plate.
Me, who used to multitask, three things at a time, have to find satisfaction, if I can get two words to rhyme. I use much inner strength, to accomplish the things I do, many times, pushing myself further, too.
I need to be more self-forgiving, when I can't do the tasks of daily living. Thirty years ago, I never would have thought, chronic pain and disability would be my lot.
No matter what you think, plan and do, fate steps in and changes everything for you. Oh, for years, I fought my fate, "accepting" it, at a rather late date.
Though, I morn those days of old, I still feel blessed, truth be told, because I've learned a lesson, terse, things could always...be worse!
Great piece. I like your autobiography. I'm sorry your in such pain. Your right about our lives never turning out the way we thought years ago.I personally never thought I'd ever be in the postions I've been in at such a young age. I hope your pain goes away. Excellent work,as always.
I sometimes don't get the point of not understanding what is coming in life from the nature as it is always so predictable you know, life, growth, problems, happiness, bad times, even worse times, this all is like a course and nothing ever happens out of these things. But still we always complain in the end of every happening, sometimes to ourselves and sometimes to the respective gods. Why? May be we get so lost in the present that we forget the course often. Any ways about the poem, it was all fine but hard for me to swallow, I know everything you have mentioned is a normal part of human life but I don;t get it anyways. Your wordings and expressions was all good, all possible and all very true but still.... my question remains.. :) thanks for sharing a thoughtful poem. Keep writing..
We learn lessons with age. To appreciate good health and a new day. I read a lot of story and poetry to keep my mind active. I have 150 Army shots in my body. Memory is going fast. I believe reading the old and new poets and writers may help my memory. I did like the ending to this poem. I have friends who are gone. I maybe better off then them. Thank you for the excellent poem. Made me think this morning.

I am retired from the Postal Service. I find I write poetry to help myself through difficult times and I have written many poems in response to the chronic pain I've been living with for over 30 year.. more..
