The Senate, Government, et al

The Senate, Government, et al

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

My thoughts

"

They keep us in a zombie state,

worrying about the gas and housing rate,

keep us so busy we don't know,

they're raking in all of our dough!

Lead us to believe they're talking it out in committee,

but behind their backs we don't see,

hands filled with bribes,

taking it in from ALL sides!

They keep us so confused,

with all the conflicting news,

was there any truth or was it all a lie,

sending our troops to fight and to die?

How can we know who or what to believe,

when lies run like water, through a sieve?

Everything great we once stood for,

has been pushed aside and out the door.

Foreign countries own our business' and land,

our hourglass is running out of sand.

Will all the men who are in power,

care when America is at its last hour?

Quick, to the point piece. I think the world has watched America become more aware of itself and that's really interesting from an outside view. It's the old Roman Empire thing isn't it? Trying to get everything but trying too hard and therefore at the end, will it just collapse over it's own pursuits? Interesting stuff!

I see freedom of speech flexed to its limits here...excellent write. I come from Africa and nigeria in particular, my country is blessed with enormous natural resources but corruption has eaten deep into every system/institution that we are the epitome of the quote "SCARCITY AMIST PLENTY". Palm kernel seeds were given as seeds to indonesia by my country's government today indonesia is the world largest producer and exporter of palm oil. the tata company in india was established the same yead as the steel company in my country, today tata manufactures cars while the steel company here never operated at 40% capacity...when the avaiation industry here kicked off in the late 70's it had 36 DC 10's while SAUDIA had less (i think it was 3 or so) today saudi stand out while nigeria airways has been folded...its a pity, when politicians (even worse here cuz they have little education, they are only opputunist and criminals) embezzle bbillions of dollars.....its indeed a nice and excellent write that saddens me, not the poem but the fact that it draws me into it to reflect on my situation.

Freedom of Speech, our last great hope. If we keep speaking the words and writing the ugly truths about what our country has become, perhaps there is a chance for change.

Great write and a thank you to Ralphy for the invite.

Although I don't understand American politics, I still can feel your passions through your words. This is really powerful. Nice job:)

this is the message that people need to see and if it's done in poetry form then so be it. I couldn't not have made it resonate as well as you did. I hope everyone gets your profound message...Thanks Barbara...

lady be careful truth in poetry has always been a cause for systems alarms going off,
thank God we still have people like you who still write what they feel.honesty in truth,
yes nothing here is our own,you get a raise and the price of living goes up.
you try to save only to spend it out on health needs.buy a house u always have to pay taxes up keep,
a car u will pay to drive it on the road.follow the money back u will find it in the hands of politicians the new businessmen who is selling us down the drain i like this right because u dared to go where so few know how to,true i wished u had made it longer ..wizthom
