In My Lair

In My Lair

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

JUST SOMETHING I DID FOR FUN

"

I was cozy warm in my lair,

with not a single, solitary care,

which, frankly speaking,

is quite rare.

Sitting before the computer, in my chair,

out the window, I did stare,

until my gaze fell onto my cat, Claire,

who was diligently licking her hair.

Then I spied a couple walking off to somewhere.

They were a striking, beautiful pair,

when on her half-hearted dare,

his behind, he did bare!

It gave her a little scare,

as windows and doors opened everywhere.

As one, we all became aware,

of a man walking along, leading a roan mare.

The couple asked, "What is the fare."

he replied, "It depends on where."

They said that they didn't care,

climbed on and galloped out of there.

I often look out the window and then dream, I wonder what the people are thinking as they live there lives walking up the street, what did they have for breakfast, are they happy or sad. Your poem reminds me of a warm saturday sitting down town at an outside cafe feeling the sun on my skin as I watch those other souls all walking around living, they don't see me as I am invisible to them because I am the watcher and they are the watched :) I loved your poem!

Humorous write...and the rhyming scheme simply plays right into the fun of it all. Its amazing what can be created when the imagination simply glances outside a window...
