Happy Birthday, My Twin

Happy Birthday, My Twin

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

I wrote this to my twin sister in 2005

"

We were conceived together,

our first existence, sharing our Mother's womb.

We took our first breath's within 11 minutes of each other,

slept in the same bed for many years

and shared the same room for more years than that.

We dressed alike, one wearing pink,

the other blue.

We shared books, toys, clothes and even boys.

My best friend, my sister, my twin,

the other half of me.

We've always had our own distinct personalities,

no one could get madder than each of us, at the other,

nor forgive each other more.

When I was little, I thought we'd always be together.

I just couldn't imagine her not "being there".

My best friend, my sister, my twin,

the other half of me.

There were a few times in our lives that we were apart

and the loss I felt at her absence is beyond description.

Suffice to say, I felt so much less of who I am.

My best friend, my sister, my twin,

the other half of me.

As we grow older, I'm looking forward,

to us becoming crotchety old ladies,

running our canes along fences, poking children, scolding

and saying, "Now, in my day..."

On this, our birthday, I want you to know,

I'm so glad we are sharing

this journey of life and...

You're my best friend, my sister, my twin,

the better half of me.

Oh this is so speciala twin. I love the wording, care, and compassion. I long to feel that rosy moment with a sibling, and now I have although through your eyes. It must be a wonderful feeling to have such an honor.
I love the wording, composure, and sentimental valve. Thanks Barbara for sharing this precious piece.

Lovely, Barbara, absolutely wonderful!

My wife's Mother and her Aunt Carol are/were twins. When my mother-in-law died, Carol said it was as if a hole was ripped in the universe, and her soul pulled through it. Her beautiful words, not mine.

I liked this one...

Thank you for sharing the amazing poem. I had 11 brothers and sisters. Each one is a part of me. I wish I had more time to spend with the family who is alive. I like the way you expressed a life with a twin. A outstanding poem.
