If You Will Have Me

If You Will Have Me

A Poem by Barbara Walker

My life feels like its been put on hold,

since 1991.

Knowing you were out there somewhere,

kept me going

and I searched for you in many ways,

I wouldn't stop until I found you, hon.

I have finally located where you are

and that gives me a small measure of peace.

The voice inside my head says,

"You gave up your best friend, your soul mate",

and it's a thought that does not cease.

You're never out of my thoughts,

you'll always be a part of my heart.

I want whatever makes you happy,

it's called unconditional love,

a lesson learned on my part.

I want you to know I want us together again,

your answer will end my misery.

If you will have me,

I'll do everything to make it happen,

I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve.

I like your poem, it flows, has a clear message although dueling messages. The desire to win back the love that escaped at a cost of dignity and the weaker one wishing for the freedom that would release love and allow independents. You can feel the emotions in the pen. I see when you wrote this...I'm so glad you are freed from this monkey on your back. What an honest write...bittersweet the paths we must take for self-realization!
