A Candle Burning

A Candle Burning

A Poem by Barbara Walker

Life, like a candle burning,

its flame nearly extinguished

by the harsh blowing winds of life,

but then, just often enough

to keep the candle hopeful,

the wind becomes a gentle breeze

and the flame begins to dance.

Simple, hopeful piece with good expression and good metaphor use.

Lovely and touching in a very soft way, like a lullaby or prayer that's sung into the wind.

A piece with few lines but filled with power and precision. Wonderfully written representation of hope, the winds blowing softer underneath the flame that had taken so many beatings before.

A beautiful poem. Felt like a positive prayer. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

IF THERE IS A PIECE OF WRITING SO CONCISE AND POWERFUL, SO TRUE AND VERY RELATIVE THEN THIS IS IT.
the metaphor really gave it that master-piece touch...indeed life moves fast and yet up and down. i really liked it.

a nicely done piece...the wind to me is like the adversity we all face in life. it is only when the breeze comes along, does the challenges in life subside to where we can live in peace with ourselves.

Always,

I like it,,, A dancing flame is a mystic sight, so variable in its movments and unpredictable in its journey.
You capture this well here in the moment of this flames life, how the wind seems it might kill the flame but as the wind eases and turns to a breeze then flame is rekindled.
Love it

Too true. I think almost everyone can identify with this. Who hasn't felt that wind blow? It's a great metaphor and a very nice piece.
