A Thousand Things And Nothing

A Thousand Things And Nothing

A Poem by Barbara Walker

A thousand things and nothing

can conjure up memories of you,

everything about you, before I could become your wife

and I'll remember them all for the rest of my life.

A joke you told, that made me laugh,

the two of us, taking a candlelit bath,

the times we tried with all our might,

to fly higher with our kites,

the way we raced down the road,

becoming ever more bold,

the way you looked when you'd barbeque our steaks,

the memories make my heart break.

The times we spent at the beach,

feeding seagulls just out of our reach,

the way you held my first granddaughter,

how you looked when you did your John Wayne saunter,

that look you had when you did something wrong,

the beautiful way you could sing any song,

the funny faces you'd suddenly make,

the memories make my heart break.

A thousand things and nothing,

can conjure up memories of you,

everything about you, before I could become your wife

and I'll remember them all for the rest of my life.

treasure...!
... such a trophy in guise of suitable & so postulated words you "treasured" him with. the age -- the prime age, when we're so young & goddamn f****n' ready to die -- is an absolute age when we come to meet our priorities & start chasing dreams-line one-by-one, perhaps, in b/w that all, love plays the radio of heart to make it turn it into the X-Box of life. funny it is, but the reality is, the playstation our life becomes when love enters our heart. and sometimes, there's game-over so sometimes, there's always anew game to start-over (with)! what a beautiful poetry it is! your game's always "started-over" with the love of your life who, i'm sure, has always worshiped you [especially, over the night]. not a bad shot. show this homie poetry to your lonely hubby. he's gonna get ya some more flavorable memories for sure, honey. great job!

So Im reading this for the contest I should have finished long ago. Might I just say the beginning might have not grabbed me but, the ending it kept me here. Wanting to read every word and at the end understanding what memories can do to a person. Last week was filled with so much joy for me and that just bought sadness to my heart as I would never be able to share this joy with my grandfather. I just wanted to say well done for your poem and if this was based off something personal for you. Let that person live on in your heart, no matter how many tears tend to take space.

Very sweet. I especially like the title - how you came full circle with the phrase.
