Traveling Near and Traveling Far

Traveling Near and Traveling Far

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

My thoughts and feelings on being the only licensed driver in my immediate famiky

"
I spend a lot of time in my car,
traveling near and traveling far.
People ask me, for reasons the same
and I've only my dear ole self to blame.

Along with all their commonsense,
they have all lost their driver's license
and when all is said and done,
Who has a car? I am the only one!

That's how I spend my days-all;
I'm at their beck and call
and I'm a dumb ole Irish lass,
rarely receiving money for gas.

Now, when I am down half a tank,
they need to go to their bank.
They need to fork over some cash.
My car runs, not on air, but gas.

And what of my precious time?
I have none to call all mine.
I can't get any projects done,
let alone, have time for fun!

Time is fleeing, I'm getting old.
I'm feeling more tired, truth be told.
I want time for me and my man,
before we're so old, we can't even stand.

I know there are ties that bind,
but weeks and months scurry by.
They can't get back this time for me
and I don't want to resent them, when I see,

I've grown so feeble and so old,
I'm sitting at home and I'm all alone,
because my man said he's sick of it,
waiting and waiting, there he sits.

I'm afraid uninterrupted time,
will never comes for us
and my man will find a woman,
who rides the bus.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Oh tough spot, you feel you can't say no, even though you're sick of it, family dynamics! Hope this has worked itself out by now, love the ending by the way!

Thank you for the review! It's resolved itself because most of them moved away!
i just want to say that you control your own life and the decisions you make and the people you say yes and no to, not just for gas money but for anything and everything. i hope when you make it to that old age you can look back and say i lived up my life and enjoyed the choices i made. honestly that is one of my beggest fears, letting myself get that old and having regrets, i just cant let that happen and i hope you dont either. but the poem was great, keep up the great work Barb.
