On-again, off-againA Poem by K.P.H.M"You've got a 9 to 5, so I'll take the night shift/ And I'll never see you again, if I can help it." - Night Shift by Lucy DacusYou tell me you need me, Only to immediately leave me. Promises of tomorrow, Bring forth a never ending bout of sorrow. You have left me, With so much to do, And no one to run to. Which was the one thing, You promised me you’d never do. Because you’ve seen my battle scars, You know every path I’ve taken so far.
You’ve seen me, Write by candlelight, About every plight.
You’ve seen me, Running on starlight, Hoping and praying for something right.
You’ve seen me, Question and doubt, People pleasing until my bones give out.
You made me mold you of out of love, While my nails got caked in the residual mud. Left in a permanent state of wanting, All the while you stood there, Taunting.
Telling me how much you need me, Only to always leave me. © 2023 K.P.H.MAuthor's Note
