Walls within walls, within walls

Walls within walls, within walls

A Poem by S. Michael Long

We create our walls
to defend our hearts

we make new ones
a device to set us apart

we destroy some of them
to let in a few

i say don't destroy any
those you let in are not you

make new ones around those whom you adore
build bridges to allow entry between the hours of war

then burn them to keep those you love very close
express true expression from the inside; the awe of your heart never remote

deny false entry to the kings that wander by
break their walls down with conviction, let them wonder why.
