Calm After the Storm

Calm After the Storm

A Poem by Jessica

Sometimes my perceptions are so distorted
That penetrating light blends into never-ending darkness
Nothing has permanence, but I wish you could stay
When can we start? Can't you just say go?
Won't you let this unfold in all its mystery?
Or will you leave this story forever untold?
The branches are scratching at your windowpane
Begging you to invite in the pain
But is it pain or is it more?
More, it transcends reality, surpasses all we've ever known
But how can we ever truly know what lingers beyond the horizon
If you won't open up the blinds?
So please, let's wait out this storm together
I promise to hold your hand through every flash and tremor
And once it passes, we can dance in the purity of the sunshine
Because I know, I know that if you stay
I will finally be able to tell night from day
