The Dark Man's Plea

By: Ethan West

Panted on in beauty's chill

My heart in steep decline

Broken on each battered thrill

My spirit never mine

The heart of heart and spirit hate

What manner man I be

What mannered thing that I create

While rusted soul does sing

And in this conflict I'll confess

My broken body is a mess

And in my own forthcoming way

I am the devil, here to stay

I broke the pact of poison made

And tears of ink now stain my face

The grave mistake that I have gave

In this dreadful, dreary place

Evermore I am to drown

No substance of this man I be

If you find substance in this shroud

Please never be a man like me

Interesting. I love how the posion is never specified, so the human mind naturally imagines the posion to be something it can relate with. And the reflection on yourself is also relatable to others for we all make mistakes. Everyone always feel evil too because they've made so many mistakes, sometimes they don't get over said mistake. But great job with this!

Wow! Thanks man I appreciate it and I'm thrilled you liked my work!
mysterious is the word...I must confess, and do not beat me up over this...I cannot get my head around the first line...It seems as if it should be Painted... or window...I cannot understand Panted on a widow still...Maybe its just me...I am a humourist after all...Great imagination in this and I cannot fault it other than by what I said earlier

This poem is filled to the brim with sorrow. It makes me want to skip in like Dorothy and pour some oil on this rusted soul of a man.

Glad you liked it :) it's always a pleasure Melody!
A paradoxical poem. The grave mistake I have to wade? It is difficult to understand, I did my best...he is consuming himself. It is a poem with many symbols and a word play. Thanks for sharing. (I found the glorious hymn "Full in the panting heart" right now)

Dark stuff, but hey it's well written and the form makes you visualize the depths of your ideas. You got a knack for poetry my friend, I must say

That's one of my favorite ones as well :) I'm thrilled once again that you enjoy my work!
The first line I had to read three times, as I kept reading it as Paint on a window cill, and I was like, that makes no sense....whoops, was not until I realised it was Panted on a Widow, still not sure what it means. yet it makes more sense than my first thought. I know many people on here, will think why bother reading poems if you do not get them or write a worthy review.

The reason, for me, one you asked, second, its about learning to enjoy new things. I will learn one day how a good poem should look and sound. I know this once again this is to the high standard. So thank you for allowing me to continue to read and review your work. Once again, sorry my reviews are not helpful or constructive.

Sarah.

I like this poem a lot. I write poetry 35 years ago similar to these words. I keep them locked away till kids had left the house. I call them the series "babbling of a insane man." I like the strong ending to the excellent poem.
