I'm Going to ScreamA Poem by Evyn RubinReport on my coping skills, the day after the Kavanagh disaster.I'm going to scream. I'm going to scream. I'm not going to get a corkscrew and stick it slowly through my eye. I'm just going to scream. I'm going to scream. I'm not going to jump out a window. I'm not going to fall off a bridge. I'm just going to scream. I'm not going to hit myself in the head. I'm not going to have a relapse of p.t.s.d. I'm not going to self-medicate. I'm going to scream. I'm not going to walk into traffic. I'm not going to make a self-destructive mistake. I'm going to scream. That is all I am going to do. And in fact, I may not scream. I may just announce my intention to scream my feelings of wanting to scream and that may be sufficient.
It may be sufficient just to say, I'm going to scream, I'm going to scream. How I fix myself these days when overwhelmed by disconcerting feelings just to recognize what I feel and simply say I'm going to scream. I find it helpful to myself to announce my feelings thusly. © 2018 Evyn RubinAuthor's Note
