Comments on the Giraffe

light verse

The giraffe has a big strong heart

to give its blood a robust start

up up up the very long neck

up against the pull of gravity

an elevator it does not havity

but the circulatory system

was designed with savity

I've read the giraffe has the biggest heart

of all the mammals

bigger than whales

bigger than camels

That's right: the biggest heart of all the mammals

belongs to the giraffe

whose head is high up in the trees

munching leaves

catching breeze

From its head the heart seems far away

and hearts pump blood night and day

The giraffe's neck is very long

and so its heart

is big and strong
