Protest of Alexandria Shooting

Protest of Alexandria Shooting

A Story by Evyn Rubin
"

by a Democrat

"

I detest this crime.  The perpetrator may have had a head full of politics, but no politics justify his actions, his attempt deliberately to inflict harm.  I hope to God that the congressman from Louisiana will soon be off the critical list, recovering.  I want everyone's complete recovery.

I want to say that I am a critic of the Trump administration, that the Trump administration needs critics and watchdogs and outspoken opponents -- but all within the context of human rights and civil rights.

I detest this crime.  If the perpetrator was a Democrat, he missed understanding the basic lesson Michelle Obama articulated:  if they go low, we go high.  This crime in Alexandria goes to an odious low.  It is not part of any legitimate opposition  politics, in fact, it is antithetical to legitimate politics.

Whatever was in the mind of the perpetrator, his deed was just repugnant, yet another example of the assorted footprints of violence that only harm and have no merit.
