Precious Life

Precious Life

A Poem by Evyn Rubin
"

prompt from a poetry group

"

Precious Life sometimes I just want

to grab Life by the horns

and look Life right into its face

throw my arms around its neck

rub my face into its shaggy wool

Rebbe Nachman said Life is like a tightrope

stretched across a chasm

the trick is not to be afraid

My shaggy sheep of Life transforms

into a sure footed mountain goat

I glimpse its confidence and am upheld

A sure footed mountain goat

eats a sandwich on its trek

I am the filling Life is the bread

update:

I like this poem, but I misquoted Rebbe Nachman.  What he said was simpler, that all the word is a narrow bridge, and the most important thing is to not be afraid.

Here is Ofra Haza, singing these words, in Hebrew, with English subtitles.
