A Prayer for Children in a Dangerous World

A Prayer for Children in a Dangerous World

A Poem by Evyn Rubin

G-d who stayed the hand of Abraham

On Mount Moriah long ago

Stay now the hands of violence.

G-d who called "Abraham, Abraham, do not harm the child,"

Protect now every child in harm's way.

G-d who unbound Isaac from the altar

Let now every child be unbound from every altar.

Blessed are You, G-d who stayed the hand of Abraham.

G-d who made water spring forth

In  the wilderness of Beersheba long ago

G-d who called to Hagar, "Fill your bottle"

G-d who quenched the thirst of Ishmael

Parched beneath the bushes

In the wilderness long ago

Let there be now water for all who thirst

Let there be now springs of comfort

To fill each empty bottle

Oh dear G-d,

Ail Rachum v'Chanun,

G-d of compassion and kindness,

Tate-Mame of the universe,

Cosmic Parent

Blessed are You, G-d who quenched the thirst of Ishmael

Blessed are You, G-d who released Isaac from the altar

Blessed are You, G-d who spared the hearts of Sarah and Hagar

Blessed are you, G-d who rejects the sacrifice of children.

Blessed are you, G-d who stayed the hand of Abraham.
